News Update: Joy OWNS The Night

'ONE TREE HILL': WHO WAS UNDER THE SHEET? WHY WE'RE NOT LOVING THE LACK OF A TWIST

BY CARINA ADLY MACKENZIE

Photo: Michael Tackett/The CW ©2012

Well, that was anticlimactic.

In this season's "One Tree Hill" premiere, we saw a brief flash-forward style glimpse of Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) crying as she prepared to identify a body in a morgue. All week, The CW has been airing promo trailers for tonight's episode -- a dramatic clip of Haley approaching the body. It's been two months of building anticipation for this moment.

Tonight, during the episode, we learned that Nathan was not, in fact, the body in the morgue. It was just a random body that surfaced in the river.

Don't get us wrong -- Galeotti's performance was absolutely heart-stopping, and we'd have to have been made of stone to avoid shedding a tear over it. She's had many stand-out moments over the course of the series, but this week's was undoubtedly her strongest work, and if there's any justice in the industry, she'll find herself highly sought-after from here on out.

That said, when a moment is built up to such a degree, it breeds distrust with the audience when there's no payoff. We're glad that Nathan wasn't under that sheet tonight, but we feel a little bit cheated out of a story. (We probably should've gotten used to that, given the fact that "One Tree Hill" was once notorious for using dream sequences in teaser promos, but still.)

Regardless, we can promise you this: there will be more tragedy in Tree Hill before the season is over. There's still a major death on the horizon, and we stand by what we told you in January - it is a character who is very significant to the series and who we've known for years.

What did you think of tonight's lack of a twist? (Unless, of course, you count the story with Clay and Logan, who is just about the greatest thing to happen to this series in years.) Drop us a line in the comments and sound off about the episode.

News Update: Tree Hill Corpse Roulette

Let’s get real for a second: Someone’s about to be fixing cars with Uncle Keith in heaven.

As the final season of One Tree Hill marches on, we’re slowly getting explanations for the shocking flash-forward sequence seen on the premiere — and on the Feb. 29 episode, we’ll finally figure out whose corpse Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) has to identify at the morgue! So who does the mystery body belong to? To figure that out, we’ll have to play my favorite game ever: Tree Hill Corpse Roulette! (Actually, that’s my second favorite game. My first is Dream Phone.)

  • Nathan: Considering he’s currently in the custody of murderous basketball terrorists, Nathan is the obvious suspect. We know James Lafferty only appears in a handful of episodes this season, but that he’s definitely confirmed for the finale, so perhaps we’ll be seeing angel Nathan. And let’s not forget that Barbara Alyn Woods is also returning for an episode. (She might want to bring a little black dress along for the trip!)
  • Dan: Considering he’s going all “hero” and trying to save his son, it’s totally possible Dan (Paul Johansson) will get killed in the process. Just think about it: Wouldn’t it be so poetic — and so One Tree Hill – for Dan to receive the ultimate redemption in death? And of course he’d be buried right next to Keith.
  • Lucas: We know his plane took off… but did it ever land?
  • Clay: He’s been sleep walking this season. Could he also be sleep dying?
  • Mouth: He’s gotten super-fat this season. Mayhaps he’s going to eat himself into an early grave?
  • Skills: I know this is random — especially since we’ve barely seen him this season — but wouldn’t Skills’ (Antwon Tanner) funeral be another good excuse for Deb to return?
  • Jamie: Doubt it. That corpse would be super tiny, and it’s not.
  • Chase or Chris Keller: Doubt it. Haley wouldn’t look so sad.

OK, my speculation is “becoming” nonsensical, so I’ll leave the rest up to you. Who do YOU think is going to bite the big one next week? Celebrate democracy by voting in my poll below:

News Update: Joy's Talks Hidden Talents, Naley, Diamond Gothic Premiere & More

Photographer: Vince Trupsin
ZOOEY MAGAZINE ©2011
ONE TREE HILL wouldn't have been the same without the maturity, optimism and faith in love that Haley James Scott, played by BETHANY JOY GALEOTTI brought to the show. Though the show is seeing it's last season and will be taking it's final bow in just a few short weeks, Bethany Joy Galeotti has left fans with a lifetime of memories. From the first time Nathan and Haley kissed in the rain, to the birth of James Lucas Scott, fans will take the positivity Haley had with them.

Bethany Joy Galeotti isn't just the "tutor-girl" fans came to love, she is a mother, wife and aspiring writer and a real inspiration to young women everywhere. While the CW has produced mostly dramas, One Tree Hill cast an exceptionally inspirational group of people who have become role models to the young eyes who watched them week to week. Parents could, with some discretion of course, not be afraid that their children were being poorly influenced by impossible dreams or poor role models. Sure the show had moments that weren't meant for young eyes, like the moment when Dan shot his own brother in cold blood, but the brightness that Bethany Joy brought to Haley was overwhelming, even in the darkest moments. The Conzene was thrilled when we landed an interview with the talented actress and we're even more thrilled to share that interview with our readers.

THE CONZENE: You've been on One Tree Hill since day one what do you miss most now that it's over?

BETHANY JOY: The crew and the onset camaraderie. It was a wonderful groove that we had gotten into daily. I think mostly I just miss the crew.

THE CONZENE: In your opinion do you think the ending of One Tree Hill is as satisfying as fans hope it is?

BETHANY JOY: Absolutely...I think that if you've trusted Mark Schwan for this long where you are still committed to our show then you have to trust him all the way to the end, he really delivers.

THE CONZENE: You were featured a lot as a singer in the show, do you have any other hidden talents your fans don't know about?

BETHANY JOY: I used to draw really well, I don't really draw that much anymore but when I did I was pretty good at it. If the pedal on your piano is broken I can fix it. If you need oil in your car...

THE CONZENE: What was it like working with Tyler Hilton and that character?

THE CW. Photo: Michael Tackett
The CW ©2011
BETHANY JOY: It was great Tyler is such a good actor, he's so funny because he kind of just got plucked out for his musical ability and he turned out to be this self afaced man, very humble and eager to learn because he's just not experienced. It was amazing how that raw talent really showed up and he has great instincts as an actor and is very excited and willing to collaborate. Very rarely do I work with an actor who in the middle of the scene after a couple of takes go you know I'm not really feeling it do you have any other ideas to make that work? And I love that because I like to do that and I love that about him and I love that about him working with him.

THE CONZENE: Nathan and Haley were one of TV's favorite couples, what do you think it was about their relationship that fans just loved so much and were so hopeful that everything would work out?

BETHANY JOY: I think its the first love of it, I think so many of us had first loves that we didn't end up with, obviously who we ended up with were better, but there is something romantic about the idea of the first person you fall in love with ends up being the right person for you. That's a really beautiful and unusual thing that we don't see very often. Also the fact that they were able to work through their issues as a young couple...when 50% of marriages end in divorce these days. There is something appealing about watching a young couple fight through and really be able to work out their issues instead of just separating. It's hard to be in a long term relationship so young because you're still thinking about yourself, I think that's what people really loved about Nathan and Haley.

THE CONZENE: There are so many devoted fans to the show, what has your experience with the fans been like?

BETHANY JOY: It's been lovely. There have been some issues with hackers in our emails and stuff, but that's so few and far between that it doesn't change the enthusiasm that we have for all the people who are the real fans, the ones who have kept us n the air for 9 years. I think our fans are great and I'm always grateful for them. This is the generation of media, it's tangible stardom I guess.

THE CONZENE: Haley was such a great role model for the fans, what is the one thing you hope that your fans have learned from your character?

BETHANY JOY: I think optimism, I think if you could sum up Haley in two works it would be strong and optimistic. There's always hope somewhere and if there is no hope then change something and make hope.

Diamond Gothic
Promotional Image
THE CONZENE: What are you working on next?

BETHANY JOY: I'm working on a rotating novel, called "DIAMOND GOTHIC," that I started writing one night when we had to pause a movie and my husband disappeared for a little while and I started writing and I thought I don't have the energy to write a book so I thought of the idea to make a rotating novel so I called a couple of girlfriends, JC Coccoli and Abigail Spencer and we decided that we would do a rotating novel. So no one knows what is going to happen until we read each other's chapter which is about three pages long. It's set in the 1920s its very vogue, its mysterious and moody. It is open ended right now, it's a murder mystery so at some point we'll have to discover who did it. We've opened up a twitter and a tumblr and we're expecting to launch in March and we'll also be doing podcasts on iTunes and it will a chapter a week and be read by the author who wrote it. It's very girl power and we're wanting to encourage young women to be encouraged and be media moguls and really carve out your passion as a woman and not have to compete with men and the passion they have. We'll be releasing the first chapter sometime in the next couple of weeks.

News Update: Perez Hilton On Chad's Return & An Extra Special Sneak Peek

Photobucket

And he looks like he's really concerned about something. And his haircut is still pretty awful.

Chad Michael Murray is swinging back through One Tree Hill for one last episode this Wednesday at 8 p.m.

He returns to help Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) grieve after his bro Nathan goes missing. Apparently his appearance is brief, but it looks especially powerful, given all the sad/concerned faces he's making.

News Update: Chad Shares Conspiracy Theories, Why Joy is F-ing Gifted & More!

‘ONE TREE HILL’ SCOOP: CHAD MICHAEL MURRAY SPILLS SECRETS ABOUT LUCAS' RETURN
BY ANDY SWIFT

What has Lucas been up to? Where is Peyton? And why does Lucas look so much like little Jamie? Chad tells all!

Chad Michael Murray returns to One Tree Hill on the Feb. 22 episode; and while his hair is questionable, his motives are pure. HollywoodLife.com was lucky enough to be on the show’s North Carolina set for Lucas’ epic return, so of course I had to grill the triple-named wonder about what Lucas has planned for his visit to Tree Hill — and what he heck he’s been up to since driving off into the sunset with Peyton (Hilarie Burton) at the end of season six.

First thing’s first: Chad informed us that Lucas has been “over in New Zealand,” far away from the drama of Tree Hill. Also, “he thinks the kiwis are quite nice.” But while Chad was happy to fill us in on all things Lucas, he said Peyton’s whereabouts will — sadly — remain the most mysterious of mysteries. “I don’t want to give you all the spoilers, but no, I don’t think we find anything out,” he told us.

Bethany Joy Galeotti  as Haley James Scott
& Chad Michael Murray as Lucas Scott

And as for those letters Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) sent Lucas last season — like, at the beginning every single episode — it turns out they were all pretty one-sided. “I decided that, yes, he did [answer her letters],” Chad said. “But we discover [in this episode] that I haven’t. So I guess I haven’t.”

Though Chad admitted that reprising his role as Lucas presented a slight “challenge,” he was more excited than anything else — especially to be working with Bethany. “I love Joy,” he told us. “She’s just so f—ing gifted, excuse my langage. When you say someone’s good and how much talent they really truly possess, sometimes an expletive is the only way to say it.”

And because I loves me a good conspiracy theory, I had to ask Chad if he ever thought it was weird that Jamie (Jackson Brundage) looks more like Lucas than Nathan (James Lafferty). “I have always said, ‘Dude, that’s my kid,’” Chad told us. “Where the hell was I 10 years ago?”

(Doing the nasty with Haley, apparently.)

So One Tree Hill fans, are you excited for Lucas’ return on this week’s episode? Hit the comments section and tell me your favorite — or least favorite — memory of Lucas. I’ve got a few to share myself!

News Update & Response: 'Back To Tree Hill' Conference

Bethany Joy Galeotti answers fans
questions at French Convention
I'm not French, so forgive me for any minor misunderstandings, however thanks to the wonders of Google Translator I can say I understand the general gist of several articles that have been posted online.

(This would have been a regular post but I've decided to make a 'News Response' in lieu of your regular updates, given some things that are being said.)

After we told you how Paul Johansson's conference for the Back To Tree Hill Convention went, we will tell you all that although many people found Bethany Joy Galeotti distant in the beginning of the day, a completely different person was presented to them in the afternoon. She confided in her future endeavors; Bethany may find herself alongside Zooey Deschanel, leading lady of The New Girl in a webseries. She did not give details, we will therefore follow this closely. In addition, she is working on a book [Diamond Gothic] with two other authors . The concept is very original since each author wrote a chapter without knowing what was written before. Finally, a film project with Daphne Zuniga who plays Victoria Davis on One Tree Hill. Finally, she says it wants to "get away from TV portrayals in order to devote herself to her little girl born in 2011. " However, she does not deny wanting to work in theater or cinema in the near future. Participants were able to witness the talent of the actress and singer when she sang "Somewhere Over The Rainbow".

When addressing the topic of Haley James Scott, her character in the series, she confides that she "loved interpreting Haley for nine years" before adding "it was a privilege". Joy really liked the evolution of her character. In fact it rose from the nerd to a strong, independent, good mother while remaining intelligent. Joy's says shooting alongside Jackson Brundage who plays the role of his son Jamie was great. She even said in French "is my little cabbage" with a focus purely American. Bethany was able to more than make up for the morning complaints from participants. The twenty people who were privileged to meet privately have even been allowed to hear him sing "Halo" , as aired in seasons 2 and 3. The actress who is in France a few weeks really enjoy French gastronomy "the ham, cheese" . But do not speak of paté! The actress has not failed to speak about the last episode of the series. Her last scene was shot on the roof of Karen's Café with her son and the series ends on the different places that marked the series: the River Court, Tree Hill High, and Tric ... another very informative meeting.

RESPONSE: Two Things

1. I do not think Joy is working with  Zooey Deschanel in a web series; however, I do think Joy may be working on a web series intended for Zooey's site, Hello Giggles. My guess is that the web series may work in conjunction with Diamond Gothic.

2. I don't like the author's use of the word 'distant' in this article. People are multi-dimensional, and celebrities show their gratitude to fans in many different ways. It is my impression that Joy was not only gracious but was well engrossed in the day's events given her willingness to sing, pose with fans, answer all the questions candidly and honestly, and show up to this event in the first place. Some individuals need to get over this feeling of entitlement when it comes to not only Joy but celebrities in general. There are some celebrities who are willing to play that game and amp up their enthusiasm to placate others, but if Joy doesn't want to be "fake" and just wants to be herself, people are going to have to accept that or else they risk the chance of perpetually being disappointed every time they meet her.

Joy doesn't strike me as the type of celebrity to be fake, and it's time people start valuing her soft spoken, reserved and genuine attitude more. It is who she is. Appreciate it or don't but accept it and move on from it. And also please refrain from knocking on the woman because she doesn't fit the behavioral template of a "celebrity" at meet-and-greets or random fan encounters. Just because she is not overly bubbly and enthusiastic, her behavior does NOT immediately imply the inverse, that she is "rude" or "cold" or whatever adjective fans want to use - on the contrary it simply means people are setting unfair expectations.

Also, to clarify I'm not directing this to any fan in particular but this is something fans, both American and international, have been struggling to accept. It's time we stop complaining about Joy's actions and start evaluating our own.

One thing to think about is: are we asking for too much from celebrities this day in age?

News Update: 'Back to Tree Hill' Day 2

Bethany Joy Galeotti poses with fan
Credit:@Leancooo
Joy was back at it again for Day 2 of a two day convention in France commemorating One Tree Hill's nine seasons on air; and boy does she look amazing! Joy seems to be rocking a fierce leather pencil skirt and leather pants in her two looks from earlier today- which definitely add an element of drama to her otherwise muted outfits.

Here are some lovely photos fans were willing to share with the rest of us from Day 2 of Vogue Evenement's 'BACK TO TREE HILL' event.

And last but not least, here's what every die-hard One Tree Hill fan has been waiting for: Bethany Joy Galeotti's mini rendition of Gavin DeGraw's "I Don't Want To Be".

News Update: Bethany Joy's 'Back To Tree Hill' in France

Shantel VanSanten & Bethany Joy
Galeotti pose with a fan
Some incredibly beautiful photos of Mrs. Bethany Joy Galeotti at Vogue Evenement's 'BACK TO TREE HILL' event have surfaced - courtesy of Joy's wonderful French fans who have attended Day 1 of a 2 day event.

Joy looks absolutely stunning in this adorable black sweetheart dress which she accessorized with a leather belt and patterned black tights. As the day progressed Joy transformed her look from classy to casual with a ballerina bun and a leopard print scarf. Overall, I'm in love! However, once again I hope we get full length shots as I'm sure her heels definitely make the look that much more memorable.

Check some of the adorable photos below!

Also, check this amazing video of Joy singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
Joy's voice is what angels are made of. BEAUTIFUL!

News Update: Lucas Back in Tree Hill

EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK: CHAD MICHAEL MURRAY'S RETURN TO ONE TREE HILL

Galeotti and Murray on set of One Tree Hill
Seems like old times... with longer hair.

Original Tree Hill-ion Chad Michael Murray makes his long-awaited, final season return to the soap that made him a three-named household name, and from the looks of this exclusive behind-the-scenes snap, he's done some changing. Unfortunately, we'll only get a quick reunion for our boy Lucas and his bestie Haley (the perpetually fabulous Bethany Joy Galeotti), since CMM, who left back in '09, is only back for the Feb. 22nd episode.

"Yeah, he came back for one," says executive producer Mark Schwahn, quickly adding that fans should not read into the brevity of Murray's stay. In fact, it was Schwahn's idea to put his star player back in the game for a single shot instead of a longer arc. "I think he would have done more, but I just felt that the story he's back for was best served by one episode."

That story involves the ongoing search for his half-brother Nathan, and while we won't spoil for you what happens with the hunt, we can point out two things that OTH diehards will find fun. One is that, yes, that is Austin Nichols (Julian) sitting on the floor — he directed the episode. And the second is that Lucas is clearly still wearing his wedding ring. So even though we don't get Hilarie Burton back, there's hope that Peyton will at least get a shout-out to satisfy the fans.

How psyched are you for Chad's return to OTH?
