Annabell made her way inside the Georgia-peach-of-a-mansion, which was both appropriately grand and warm in the same breath, and found Walter Mason deep in the throws of a whiskey. Over ice? A change of pace for the mustached, muskrat patriarch.
She saw her father’s growing belly and the decline of his pointed-wit. Within the past year, Annabell had noticed his patience wearing thinner and thinner– he seemed to care increasingly less about the things that needed his attention the most. Annabell couldn’t quite put her finger on the matter, but rather scraped over those eggshells by a hair in her buttoned-up, all-the-rage ankle boots. Never wanting to be ‘the what’ of her father’s matter, she had always relied on her girlish charms and in the abiding confidence that she, indeed, would always be Daddy’s girl.

It was at the beginning of summer, 1929, when Annabell’s family (“The Masons,” as they were referred to by the locals), came here to escape the sounds of the bustling city. They’d been driving out this way for years now, for the peace and quiet; it was the kind of quiet that was enough to drive the crickets mad, really, but this is exactly why they liked it– or so were the rumors.
A ginger boy, branded with the palest skin, greenest eyes and most bothersome freckles sat halfway out the window of the moving vehicle. He was using his embroidered pocket knife to scrape the paint off of the automobile belonging to Mr. Mason, his father. Always doing wrong, Junior was.

Fireflies light up the cobblestone road as, here and there, the roar of a Dodge or Ford clamors its way up or down the lane. One grows accustomed to the muggy, breathless evenings of the South. The rabid mosquitoes swarm, the scent of magnolias is dizzying. The Spanish moss, which in the sunlight is an ethereal charm, now hangs, looming in the bug-lit night and hiding war-torn ghosts in its shadows.

LONG TV RUN TO END FOR BETHANY JOY LENZ

BY: Susan Parrish

Actress Bethany Joy Lenz (formerly Galeotti) has spent nearly a third of her life working on the CW drama “One Tree Hill,” which ends its nine-year run April 4.

Lenz, 30, the actress who married Enation band member Michael Galeotti of Battle Ground in 2005, has portrayed Haley James Scott in 187 episodes of the series.

The show that focused on high school students and their intertwined families in the fictional small town of Tree Hill, N.C., resonated with viewers, particularly women ages 18 to 34.

Lenz’s character developed from a teen who married and had a baby while still in high school to a tutor, professional singer and co-owner of the cafe where she once worked as a waitress.

In addition to her acting talents, Lenz is a singer, songwriter and musician who has sung on the show several times. She is the lead singer of the band Everly with longtime friend Amber Sweeney.

Although Lenz and her husband own a home in Clark County, she likely won’t be hanging out in Battle Ground any longer. This month the actress filed for divorce and dropped the name Galeotti, returning to her maiden name, Lenz.

News Update: Everly Teams Up With Nicholas Sparks for Family Fun Weekend!

Sweeney & Lenz as Everly
EVERLY TO PERFORM AT NICHOLAS SPARKS CELEBRITY CHARITY WEEKEND

BY: Meriam Bouarrouj

Bethany Joy Lenz and Amber Sweeney of the musical duo EVERLY will be performing at a special show during the Nicholas Sparks Celebrity Family Weekend in New Bern, NC. Lenz and Sweeney will perform during Family Fun Night at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center on April 20.

The event-filled charity weekend, which will take place at multiple venues around the coastal town, will benefit global education initiates for the youth, Hope for the Warrior and Paws With A Cause.

"I am so excited about the Nicholas Sparks Celebrity Family Weekend", said Sweeney. "The Sparks family are such generous people, and it's an honor to be a part of the causes they support! Plus, we not only get to play as Everly, but we'll get to participate in all the other events throughout the weekend!"

The evening will also include a magic show by acclaimed magician and illusionist Carl Michael, arts and crafts, games along with a down-home picnic and opportunities for autographs and photographs from celebrity guests. The rest of the weekend will also include a golf tournament, film festival, a Nicholas Sparks Family Brunch and more.

The state of North Carolina is no foreign land to the talented ladies. Up until last winter, Lenz called the quaint city of Wilmington home for nine years, while she starred in the CW hit series “One Tree Hill”. Her musical passion was crossed over into her on-screen character of Haley as her and Sweeney put on multiple “Tree Hill” performances throughout the show’s nine-year run.

Lenz has also transformed one of Sparks’ most successful and critically-acclaimed popular novels The Notebook into a musical production. The play, which had a one-time live run through in Wilmington, is still in its developing process; as Lenz told me in a past interview, while she wants to tell this classic story in a unique way, she still wants it to reflect Sparks’ original vision for it. “We want to make sure that what we put out there as the final product is really honoring to the story and especially to Nicholas Sparks and his family because that story was very close to his family.”

Join Everly along with the Sparks family for what is sure to be an exciting weekend helping wonderful causes!

Fashion Update: Joy is Mod-Cute at Zooey Relaunch Party!

Bethany Joy Lenz poses at
Zooey Magazine's Relaunch Party
The always captivating Bethany Joy Lenz strode down the red carpet for Zooey Magazine’s Relaunch Party at Bardot Hollywood on March 17, 2012 rocking a soft and sweet ballerina-esque look. The newly single actress was glammed up in a demure spaghetti strap dress with a sweetheart neckline and mid-rise waist with a flared silhouette. A beige and ivory bodice tops a black skirt, while a wide band emphasizes her super petite waist. The dress alone is a bit muted and is missing a certain je ne sais quoi. However, Joy brings her look to life with ultra bold hot pink pumps, extra flirty amethyst embellished jewelry, and sultry makeup.

In this ensemble Joy’s accessories are everything. Joy completes her look by pulling her blonde tresses in a high ballerina bun to give this look a chic upgrade. Also not to be forgotten is Joy's cool leather jacket which she's paired with this versatile look to achieve an edgier style.

While the dress is softly feminine the accessories make this sweet style damn sexy!

My verdict: ★ ★ ★

Also check out this exclusive Bethany Joy Lenz interview thanks to

In response to whether or not she intends to go back to television, Joy enthusiastically says yes and says “it just takes some time to figure out what the right thing is.” Joy strikes me as an actress who only pursues quality projects that she is completely invested in and doesn’t just leap at the first script her agent sends her way. I really love that about her.

As if that weren't enough, Joy also mentions that she is still working on her music with her mega-talented producer Ron Aniello – which begs the question  – is Joy looking to release more music as a solo act? We’ll see. Either way, it seems like Joy fans have a lot to look forward to!

News Update: Joy & Michael Call it Quits

COUPLE SEPARATES AFTER 6 YEARS
OF MARRIAGE

Bethany Joy Lenz & ex-husband
Michael Galeotti
Bethany Joy Lenz (yes, she’s going back to her maiden name) made the shocking revelation that she and her husband of six years, Michael Galeotti will be filing for divorce.

“I'm sorry to say that Michael and I have decided to divorce. We remain friendly and dedicated to raising our beautiful girl in love and we appreciate your prayers and support during this difficult time,” Lenz revealed on Monday through her official blog, BethanyJoy.com.

The couple tied the knot on New Year’s Eve of 2005 and in February of 2011 they welcomed their first and only child, Maria Rose Galeotti. In 2009 the couple pursued an entrepreneurial venture in the form of Galeotti’s Restaurant, located in their hometown of Battle Ground, Washington.

In an issue of Vancouver Family Magazine, Galeotti’s declaration to his family was in tall order for him despite the fact that Lenz spent the better part of each year filming One Tree Hill in Wilmington, North Carolina while he stayed at home recording with his band and running Galeotti’s Restaurant. For six years the couple made it work, traveling back and forth whenever time would allow.

However, the distance was definitely a challenge. “We haven’t lived together in the same place for longer than like three months at a time because of this show,” Lenz stated in an exclusive interview with The CW back in 2009. “So I mean I just want to go home and live with my husband for longer than three months. That would be nice.”

Lenz & Galeotti pose at an event in L.A.
The news of the divorce definitely came as a surprise to all and the news continues to reverberate across the web despite Joy’s reluctance to speak out on such a personal topic. However, most shocking is the timing. With filming for One Tree Hill all wrapped up, Lenz packed up her life in Wilmington to head for the West Coast to be with her family. Unfortunately, due to some unknown circumstances, the couple decided to call it quits but did so on amiable terms.

Whatever the circumstances, Lenz's optimism and good faith underscores her blog post stating that she “feel[s] immensely humbled and grateful that God works all things for the good of those who love Him.” In a 2007 interview with Radiant Magazine, Lenz spoke similarly on her faith and how it’s been a constant in her life. “I’ve always had faith. As a little girl, I saw the world differently than a lot of people I was around. I just always knew that God was with me. I could feel Him. I think maybe being an only child really helped me because I wasn’t distracted from my environment and how it affected me and what it meant about life. I’ve always been someone who looks beyond what I can see.”

Despite the inevitable hardship that is brought on by a divorce, it seems that Joy’s faith will help her see through such a difficult and complicated time in her life. Since the divorce she has attended several events, most recently Zooey Magazine's Relaunch Party. Remarkably she's ever looked as vibrant and confident as she does now. It seems like Joy has been able to pull herself up by the bootstraps and move forward without making any apologies for her ambitious attitude - which is something I truly admire about her.

In light of the recent events, I have decided to end this post with Joy’s poem entitled “Women of Legend” – a poem that perfectly highlights a woman’s immeasurable strength and perseverance amidst pain and hardship.

I wish Joy and her family all the best in the world as they transition through this difficult period.

O my child, the heart is a perilous thing.
The heart crowns all paradoxes of God;
made of muscle and steel and fire, but frail as the sparrow's wing.

Women of Legend are not born-- they are grown
out of spit and dirt and fire and sweat;
they are not a glamorous flock.

They have grease underneath their fingernails
and wrinkles around their eyes.
They have bruises from too-hard pounding upon their breasts.
They have lines from laughter and their feet are callused
from barefooted adventures and sojourns.

Women of Legend are grown out of the spit and dirt and fire and sweat;
their significance is secured in their steadfast response
to unimaginable pain.

'1929 & Bleeding' Chapter Review

CHAPTER ONE
‘1929 & BLEEDING’
BY BETHANY JOY GALEOTTI

Alluring, ingenious, and thought provoking are just some of the words that came to mind after I finished Chapter One of “Diamond Gothic”. In less than 500 words, Bethany Joy Galeotti sets the stage for "Diamond Gothic" – a compelling murder mystery set in Savannah, Georgia that is enriched with the drama and style of one of the most captivating eras in history – the roaring twenties.

In the distance there is a delicious murmur of some gay affair–
music, chatter and the occasional, irritating laughter of that one
inevitable party guest who is three sheets to the wind and
determined to capture the attention of the crowd.

The novel opens with vivid imagery of a charming annual celebration at the Mason’s summer home. Although the Southern festivity is ostensibly ordinary in its events, the interactions between Annabell Hayworth and an unidentified admirer demonstrate otherwise. The subtle exchange of a note and the heated glances seem to go unnoticed by everyone – but one.

And as she tucks the note into the strap of her gown, a new hand, attached to a Mr. Hayworth, slides around her waist. She breaks her gaze with our vain young man, and her eyes shift into a new personality all together; she is now the doting bride, demure and gracious, innocent in all her charms, and wholly focused on the man who is pulling her close to his side and saying to a stout and gawking couple, “I’d like to introduce you to my wife…

Almost instantaneously her demeanor shifts and Mr. Hayworth’s possessive assertion suggests to readers an underlying tension between the couple. “Diamond Gothic” gains the propulsive energy of a thriller as the intriguing happenings at the party are punctuated by the imminent death of the story’s protagonist, Annabell.

#WhoShotAnnabellHayworth
Now, readers are left asking a plethora of questions: What was in that note? Who is the young man that interacts with Annabell? And ultimately, who shoots Annabell Hayworth - and why?

Furthermore, this mystery employs all the witty jargon you’d expect from an in-vogue 1920s novel (however, I’m sure it’ll be difficult to follow for some so be sure to keep an extra tab open for quick google searches). Ultimately, the novel works perfectly as a glimpse in the 1920s lifestyle as it does an actual novel.

Chapter One of “Diamond Gothic” is extremely clever and Galeotti writes with such fluidity and loveliness it’ll be a challenge waiting for next week’s installment. The drama is enthralling and I’m curious to learn more about the characters and their worlds.

Albeit too short, it was a wonderful read.

Congratulations on the premiere of Diamond Gothic ladies! My curiosity is definitely piqued. And I look forward to the iTunes audio release.

& I should also mention that #DIAMONDGOTHIC was the #3 trending topic on Twitter earlier today. To say fans are excited about this would be an understatement.

News Update: Are You Ready for DIAMOND GOTHIC?

Photography by Jeremy Cowart
Diamond Gothic began as a short narrative written one bored & rainy evening in Wilmington, North Carolina where I was filming the final season of One Tree Hill. If you know me at all, you know I have a MILLION balls in the air and the idea of starting a new project wasn’t even an option. But if I could collaborate… I thought… And within a few days, the concept of a rotating internet novel was born!

Without hesitation, the HelloGiggles team outstretched a hand to help a fellow sista. They introduced me to the lovely and hilarious JC Coccoli, who I knew would lend a playful and smart-as-a-whip voice to the story and, for another unique voice, I approached long-time galpal, actress & writer Abigail Spencer to be our third authoress. I sent out chapter one and said, “Let’s play!”

Thus began months of improvisational writing, each author “yes, and”-ing the author before her, no one of us knowing what will happen next. Each chapter is approximately 3 pages long– just enough to wet your palate and keep you coming back for more.

In case you were wondering, DIAMOND GOTHIC is set in 1929 Savannah, Georgia. The story revolves around the ingenue (or is she?) Annabell Mason-Hayworth. At 18, she has all the privilege a young girl of southern comfort ought to have. She’s terribly excited to finally be a woman and to show-off her new womanly-ness to any boy who’s keen to notice. But this year’s annual stay at the Mason’s summer home in Savannah will bring about much more than new romance. A marriage is crumbling, a faithful friend is hiding a deep secret, an old nemesis returns– as does a handsome troublemaker, there are buried family secrets just dying to be unlocked and murder is in the thick, southern air…

Stay tuned next week to DiamondGothic.com and HelloGiggles for the launch build up, including a “Gatsby Bracelet” from Jewelmint giveaway, jewelry box signed by the authors! Then, check HELLOGIGGLES on Sunday, MARCH 11, 2012 to read the first two chapters of DIAMOND GOTHIC!

  • The authoresses do not know what is going to happen until they read prior chapters

  • The novel is set in the 1920s
  • There will be PODCASTS available on iTunes with each chapter (at 0.99 cents)
  • A chapter will be available every week & will be read by the authoress who wrote it

I cannot lie, I am super stoked to read Chapter One and hear the audio podcast. I'm sure I will have just as much fun reading the novel as these ladies did writing it!

One Tree Hill Episode Review: "All the Awards For You, Girl"

Episode Title: 'A Rush of Blood to the Head
Airdate: February 29th, 2012
Ratings: 1.56 mil (↑ 0.9%)

Bethany Joy Galeotti’s brilliant, bruising and entirely committed performance in “A Rush of Blood to the Head,” is the truest testament of the actress’s dedication to deliver a performance beyond what is expected of her. The intense preparation that goes into every performance most definitely pays off on screen— and last night was no exception. Completely immersed in the tragic plot where Haley struggles to find Nathan, Galeotti flawlessly captures the emotional turmoil, anxiety, and frustration involved in locating a missing loved one. Never content in portraying Haley as the victim, Galeotti upholds a unique grace and poise as Haley searches for him.

In this episode Haley’s enduring sadness intensifies when she receives a phone call from the morgue saying they’ve identified a body that may be Nathan’s. This single moment initiates one of the strongest montages in One Tree Hill history. The keys and the phone crash abruptly to the floor and the camera pans to Galeotti’s numb expression. The news is so powerful and so hard-hitting that it debilitates Haley to a point where she loses all strength to hold herself up.

Burdened by the impending news of her husband’s possible death, Haley heads to the morgue crying silently in the passenger seat as she delivers what can easily be the most touching yet heartbreaking voice over this show has ever seen:

And you looked at me so tenderly, Nathan, and you said you always chose mint chocolate chip because you knew it was my favorite flavor. And that’s when I realized for the first time that you hadn’t been making any of your decisions for yourself. You were doing everything for me all along, for your family. And it occurred to me that we still had so much to learn about each other. And since then Nathan, I’ve learned about the wonderfully selfless, humble, strong man you are. Nathan, I can’t hear that you’ll never come home again, that I’ll never learn something new about you again, never experience your selflessness, your love, your warm touch again. Nathan, please – have we really had our last conversation? Our last kiss? I don’t know what I’d do – please. – Haley James Scott (9.08)
Amidst the heavy drama, Haley draws upon this “insignificant” yet tender memory of Nathan that reinforces why these two are the cornerstone of One Tree Hill. Despite the fact that this favorite-ice-cream-flavor moment never played before us on screen, Galeotti vividly brings us to relive it. She conveys such warmth and sincerity that you would have to be made of stone not to sympathize with her and feel the magnitude of Nathan and Haley's love.

When Haley arrives, she whispers something to Quinn and gathers the strength to face the manifestation of her biggest fear. Her breath hitches and the man pulls the heavy sheet, exposing the body. She reluctantly looks at the body  Galeotti doesn’t say a single word, but her physical reaction reveals it all. With a look of deep shock, disgust and agony she cries and then strongly signals to cover the unidentified lifeless body that lies before her.

Although fans may have felt cheated given the buildup of this poignant moment (no, it wasn't Nathan), Galeotti’s spectacular performance distracts from the fact, as this breakdown is the strongest work we’ve ever seen from an actor on this show. And like Matt Mitovich from TVLine says in response to the latest episode, "Damn, the Actress Formerly Known as Joie Lenz can cry."

The episode continues as Haley somberly talks about the tornado of events with Deb and Brooke. Haley makes minor progress but seeks more help by going to the local precinct to speak to the only Tree Hill cop on duty. Here, Galeotti flawlessly captures the disappointment and disillusionment with the police force, and their lack of support in locating Nathan. Haley looks so defeated and her voice sounds like she’d been crying for hours – which adds an amazing element of realism that can be lent to Galeotti's ability to channel deep into the pain of her character. Unapologetically, Haley yells her heart out screaming “it’s not enough” as she violently shoves objects off a desk in an attempt to drive the police to find Nathan. Galeotti's tears are so impactful that it legitimately feels like fans are too fighting to look for Nathan, although we already know where he is.

Haley's frustrations continue to mount when she rips off a missing dog flyer that covers a missing person poster with Nathan’s face printed on it. Powerless and dejected, Haley makes a last-ditch effort to locate Nathan and turns to an unlikely person; Dan Scott – thus ending a beautifully tragic episode.

A Rush of Blood to the Head,” will go down in One Tree Hill history as one of the most moving episodes ever produced – all thanks to the phenomenally talented, Bethany Joy Galeotti. This woman possesses such immense potential and it's an awe-inspiring experience watching her live up to it. What a gift! If Hollywood critics and casting directors aren’t already aware of Galeotti’s talent I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this is the beginning to a journey towards BIG things in her career.

There’s just something so enigmatic and striking about the way she effortlessly thrusts audiences so intimately into the complex world of Haley James Scott – the woman posses a certain je ne sais quoi, an IT Factor that no other actor on this show has. And it's that unique and undefined "IT" that makes Galeotti so special – so unique. Her talent is truly something that will be revered for years and years to come.

And as they say on tumblr, “all the awards for you, girl.” Congratulations on a wonderful performance.
